Pueblos, reyes, magistrados y guerreros invocaban y clamaban su nombre, solicitando su protección. Con el fin de tener una suerte propicia, le ofrecían corderos, perros y miel. En honor de Hécate se celebraban todos los meses en Atenas unas fiestas denominadas hecatesias, durante las cuales los ricos de la ciudad entregaban en las encrucijadas una comida pública, llamada comida de Hécate, destinada principalmente a los pobres de la ciudad y a los viajeros indigentes.
