Plutón era la única de las divinidades superiores que no dispuso jamás de templos ni altares. Se le sacrificaban víctimas negras cuya sangre corría hasta depositarse en una hoya. El ciprés y el narciso eran las plantas que le estaban especialmente consagradas.
Proserpina se mostraba al lado de Plutón, sentada en un trono de ébano o sobre un carro arrastrado por caballos negros. En su mano llevaba flores de narciso. Bajo el nombre de Hécate, presidía los actos de magia y los encantamientos: ejercía su poder sobre el mar y la tierra, en el Tártaro y en los cielos.
