El rapto de Proserpina, de Rubens (pintado entre 1636-38), se encuentra en Madrid, Museo del Prado. Aquí se distancia de la tradición mitológica que narra cómo Hades proviene del Infierno para raptar a su sobrina cuando se encontraba sola en un prado. El pintor nos enseña a las diosas Atenea en primer plano, mientras que Hera y Artemisa están tras ella, oponiéndose a los actos de Hades e intentando hacerle desistir. El dios está a punto de alcanzar su carro, mientras dos pequeños Cupidos le ayudan. El carro está tirado por dos briosos corceles negros, cuyas riendas sujeta un Cupido y el otro se dispone a hostigarles con el látigo. En el suelo reposa el cestillo de flores que la joven diosa estaba recogiendo cuando se vió sorprendida. La escena muestra movimiento y violencia.
